What’s So Great About Vermont Fall Vacations?
Vermont fall vacation is unlike anywhere else in the world thanks in no small way to the vibrant colors of the state’s fall foliage. The Green Mountain State of Vermont USA has been listed as one of the “50 Places of a Lifetime to Visit” by National Geographic Traveler’s mobile app.
Full of natural heritage, the state of Vermont in New England harbors some of America’s most beautiful and scenic landscapes. The serene beauty of endless emerald green fields soon transform into forests with magnificent mountain peaks, accented by 400+ freshwater lakes and ponds.
The people of Vermont (Vermonters) are known for their friendliness, honesty, and hospitality – making Vermont a very popular tourist destination!
We recommend you take a lovely drive through the Green Mountains, visit the historic homestead of Plymouth Notch, and spend some time in the “prettiest small town” of Woodstock while on your Vermont fall vacation.
Green Mountains Vermont
The state of Vermont is known as “The Green Mountain State” because of the famous Green Mountain range. The Green Mountains are only a small part of the Appalachian Mountains, which span between the province of Quebec (in Canada) and the southern state of Alabama.
While on your Vermont fall vacation you can enjoy the world famous New England Fall Foliage tour as well as taste the sweetest, all natural maple syrup.
Driving up the scenic roads through the Green Mountains can be slow but only because of all the scenery to be seen. Along the way, quaint towns like Stowe and Montgomery are surrounded by apple orchards, covered bridges, and charming inns.
Plymouth Notch Vermont
Visit the small homestead of Plymouth Notch while on your Vermont fall vacation. Plymouth Notch became famous the night Vice President Calvin Coolidge received news of the untimely death of President Warren Harding. That night, on August 3, 1923, Coolidge was sworn into Presidency by an oath administered by his father, right in his family’s homestead.
To this day Plymouth Notch remains nearly the same as it was that night, nearly 100 years ago. For nearly a century it has been untouched – and is now considered one of the best preserved Presidential sites in America. For more information, see this Coolidge Foundation page.
Most of the town of Plymouth Notch, Vermont remains as it was in 1923 and visitors to the historical site are able to visit the Cilley General Store, the Post Office, and the local church. The dance hall, which became the Summer White House for Coolidge, is open to the public, as well as the home where Coolidge was born.
Woodstock Vermont
No Vermont fall vacation would be complete without a visit to Woodstock. The people of Woodstock brag that their town is one of the most perfect places in all of Vermont. Woodstock was named the “Prettiest Small Town in America” by Ladies Home Journal, and named “One of America’s Most Picturesque Villages,” by National Geographic Magazine.
The small town of Woodstock, with just over 3,000 residents, is the capital of Windsor County in Vermont. At the heart of the town is the central square known as the Village Green. Most residences in the area are restored but still reflect late Georgian, Federal, and Greek Revival designs.
The small town of Woodstock, Vermont is very quaint and filled with local boutiques, art galleries, antique shops, and specialty food stores, where you can find unique gifts and simple treasures while on your Vermont vacation.
And of course, a visit to Vermont would not be complete without a glimpse of the much-photographed historic Taftsville Covered Bridge.
