History & New England Attractions in New Hampshire USA

You’ll see many wonderful east coast attractions while on your New Hampshire vacation, which is part of our New England package tour by Caravan Tours.

Captain John Mason originally named the State of New Hampshire after the town of Hampshire in England. Over time, New Hampshire has developed several nicknames including the “Granite State,” “Mother of Rivers,” and “White Mountain State.

New Hampshire, USA, is located between Vermont and Maine and is one of only six states in New England. Like many of the other New England states, New Hampshire is brimming with tourist attractions including quaint shops, galleries, scenic state parks, historic sites, and glistening lakes.

New Hampshire is also home to the tallest mountains in the Northeast plus three National Scenic Byways.

While on your New Hampshire vacation, be sure to travel through the White Mountains; drive along the Kancamagus Highway, and stay in the small town of North Conway to fully take in the White Mountains.

White Mountains NH

The White Mountains cover nearly one quarter of the state of New Hampshire making it nearly impossible to visit the state without catching a glimpse of the most rugged mountain range in New England.

The most famous peak in White Mountains is Mt. Washington, which rises over 6,200 feet above sea level. Here the fastest surface wind gusts over its face reaching up to 370 miles per hour.

Mt. Washington is joined by 47 other mountain peaks all reaching over 4,000 feet. This group of peaks, called the “Four-Thousand Footers,” carve out breathtakingly scenic peaks and valleys on the New England horizon. In between, New Hampshire vacationers are delighted by the cultural richness, historical charm, and exciting recreational activities of the area.

North Conway New Hampshire

Located in the heart of the White Mountains, with Mt. Washington to the northwest, is North Conway, a popular New Hampshire vacation destination because of its shopping, recreation, attractions and outdoor activities. The year-round New Hampshire resort area is home to only 2,300 residents making it a very quaint and peaceful place to visit.

The main attractions in North Conway NH include the Cathedral Ledge (a popular climbing location), Echo Lake State Park, as well as Mount Cranmore. North Conway’s commercial district is home to Settlers’ Green Outlet Village and the White Mountain Outlet Stores.

Set to the backdrop of over 700,000 acres of the White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire tourists can enjoy North Conway during any season, but especially during fall when New England’s “Fall foliage” is displayed in all its splendor.

New England fall colors tours are always quite popular.

Kancamagus Highway

The Kancamagus Scenic Highway takes New Hampshire vacation travelers across 34.5 miles of unrivalled Fall Foliage viewing areas. The highway winds through the White Mountain National Forest, giving passengers unbelievable views of the White Mountains, Swift River, Sabbaday Falls, and Rocky Gorge.

Reaching elevations just shy of 3,000 feet, the highway has been appointed an American Scenic Byway. Its rich history, aesthetic beauty, and culture, make it a popular way to travel between Lincoln and Conway in New Hampshire.

Don’t be surprised when you leave modern civilization and are transformed to a simpler time, without gas stations and restaurants on every corner. Enjoy unspoiled New England fall foliage without all the modern day luxuries!
