Rainforest Costa Rica Tours

Costa Rica is home to over 10,000 species of plants and trees making it one of the most bio-diverse regions in the world. The forestation consists of luscious rainforests, mysterious cloud forests and unique tropical dry forests.

Costa Rica vacationers can enjoy the natural beauty of all three thanks to excellent Costa Rica Rainforest Eco Tours by Caravan.

Hanging Bridges Rainforest Adventure Tour

The Arenal Hanging Bridges is one of the top eco-tourism attractions in all of Costa Rica. With over 3 kilometers of safe trails and bridges the park allows visitors to get an intimate glimpse of life in the rainforest canopy.

The park features a Natural History Walk Tour that takes visitors through the tropical rainforest. Naturalist guides explain the history of the colorful plants and fascinating animals. The Costa Rica tour also includes the Waterfall Trail (new to the park); from a hanging bridge visitors get a breathtaking view of the flowing water.

The hanging bridges stretch through the canopy over 20 meters above the rainforest floor. There are a total of 16 bridges (nine fixed bridges and six suspension bridges) that give one a bird’s eye view of the canopy and the lush rainforest below. There are between 50 and 60 species of birds regularly spotted from the hanging bridges as the rainforest is nestled under a set corridor for migratory birds traveling between North and South America.

Costa Rica’s Hanging Bridges are also the perfect place to take in Arenal Volcano since the bridges are positioned right in front of the crater. The bridges in particular offer fantastic views of the active volcano.

The park is carefully designed and responsibly built as to protect the natural habitat of its flora and fauna. Full efforts are made to preserve the natural habitat of the insects, reptiles and birds that call this rainforest home. Thus, a tour through the Costa Rica rainforest is both educational and fun with close contact with nature throughout.

Located near Arenal Volcano and Baldi Hot Springs northwest of La Fortuna; the Arenal Hanging Bridges are your walkway to Costa Rica’s tropical paradise.

Escallonia Cloud Forest Trail Tour

Cloud Forests (or Fog forests) have a higher humidity and less rain than the typical rainforest. The unique ecosystem is found in less than 50 tropical and sub-tropical countries around the world, including Costa Rica.

The Escallonia Cloud Forest Trail is situated near Poas Volcano National Park in central Costa Rica, less than an hour’s drive from the capital city of San Jose. The forest features lower woody plants with an abundance of small cypress and myrtle growth. Escallonia Cloud Forest is also home to dozens of hummingbirds and large stunning orchids.

Plants along the trail flower at various points throughout the year but the best time to visit is in the summer and autumn when primary colors emerge. Because of this, the Escallonia Cloud Forest Trail is a popular destination for North Americans on winter vacations in Costa Rica.

Guanacaste Tropical Dry Forest Tour

Guanacaste National Park is situated on the Pacific side of Costa Rica. It was originally created as biological corridor for the migration of birds and insects between the dry forests, cloud forests and rainforests. The founder of the park also had the vision of encouraging locals to become involved in the environmental programs.

The dry forest park features hiking, nature walks and bird watching. If visiting in the afternoon, guests should be ready for a short rainfall (especially during the rainy season that lasts May through November).

Tours through the trails interweave through several ecosystems as the elevation increases form the Pacific Ocean up to Orosi and Cacao volcanoes. For Cost Rica vacationers with more time to spend in Guanacaste a hike up and across the Continental Divide will lead to a typical Costa Rica rainforest.

The most popular wildlife visitors see in the dry forest include howler monkeys, white-tailed deer, long-tongued bats and capuchin monkeys. Birds such as the Orange-Fronted Parakeet and Crested Caracara are common and easy to spot up in the trees as well.
